12 Reasons To Try Something New

12 reasons to try something new myshopdiscounts

Are you the type who likes routine? Are you a little afraid of doing anything new, or even doing the same things, but a little differently? I totally get it- I mean, same is safe, right? But come on- admit it- same does get a little boring after a while. You know it does, even if you’re the play-it-safe type. And besides the excitement of shaking things up a little bit, there are so many other benefits to trying new things. Here are a dozen reasons to try something new, even if it scares you!

  1. You’ll build confidence. Go outside your comfort zone and you’ll probably be very surprised at how well the experience worked out. You’ll be proud of yourself and less nervous to do it next time.
  2. You’ll get new perspective. Doing new things allows you to see things in a different way, even things that you were already familiar with.
  3. You’ll learn about yourself. It’s the only way to find new things that you like: activities, foods, experiences.
  4. It’s stimulating. New is exciting! And trying new things is a great way to stimulate your brain, helping to keep it young and healthy.
  5. You’ll add new benefits to your life. Trying new things can open doors for you and pave the way for new new opportunities
  6. You’ll grow. We are meant to grow all through our lives, and trying new things is a good way to make that happen.
  7. You’ll learn new things. That’s always good.
  8. You won’t have regrets. If you try something new you’ll never regret not having tried it.
  9. It makes you more interesting.
  10. You will see the rewards. Taking a risk almost always results in rewards that are very satisfying.
  11. You’ll inspire others. Having others see you try new things imparts a valuable lesson, especially if you have kids.
  12. You’ll learn to survive failure. So what if you tried something and it didn’t work out so well? You’ll see it’s not the end of the world, and you won’t hold yourself back the next time.

So go for a little adventure in your life. You can always go back to the things that are familiar, but you’ll gain so much from trying something new once in a while!

How to Make Your Own Lip Balm

by Wanda on January 10, 2016

how to make your own diy lip balm myshopdiscounts

Winter can be brutal on our delicate lips. It’s like more moisture is sucked out by the minute, leaving you with dry, cracked, chapped lips. Lips are especially susceptible because they are constantly exposed and they have only a thin layer of skin for protection. Fortunately, there’s something to do about it: lip balm. A good lip balm will be absorbed into your lips, restoring hydration, while also sealing in the moisture and protecting your lips from more damage.

You can buy lip balm almost anywhere at any price range, but you can also make your own! It costs a lot less, you can control the ingredients that go into it, and… it’s also a fun project. The basic ingredients for a good, moisturizing lip balm are beeswax and coconut oil. Beeswax, because it moisturizes and acts as a barrier. And coconut oil, because it’s a deep moisturizer and also helps to reinforce the skin’s fat layer, which holds in hydration.

Here’s how to make your own lip balm:

  • equal parts coconut oil and grated beeswax (buy a small, inexpensive grater to use just for beeswax because you’ll never be able to get it clean!)
  • a few drops of vitamin E (for some extra moisturizing and for its antioxidant properties that help prevent skin damage)

Melt the ingredients together over a double boiler, stirring until it’s melted and combined. Or you can do this in the microwave, taking it out and stirring every 30 seconds until melted and combined. Now you’re ready to make it your own with some add-ins:

  • a few drops of essential oils: good options are peppermint, orange, rosemary.
  • honey: melt it in with the beeswax and coconut oil; it adds flavor and moisture to your balm.
  • lipstick: melt and stir in a little piece to give your balm some tint.
  • shimmery eye shadow: use a pink, red, or orange eye shadow for tint and shimmer.
  • tea tree oil: add a few drops for antibacterial protection.

When your mixture is all combined put it into the container(s) of your choice. You can use recycled mint tins, or actually buy some cool tubes and little jars from Amazon and other suppliers. Make a large batch to give as gifts, and you can even design your own labels. Have fun and experiment, and keep your lips from drying out this winter!
