17 Cool Q-Tips Tricks

Everyone knows that Q-tips are for cleaning ears. Carefully, of course, only around your outer ear. So you probably have a constant supply of them in your house, which is great, because I’m about to open your mind to so many other ways that Q-tips come in handy every single day!

  1. Quick paint touch-up. The small tip allows you to be precise when you only need to get to a small area.
  2. Neat home manicure. Dip in some nail polish remover to clean cuticles after a home mani.
  3. Clean your keyboard. There’s really nothing else that can get between those keys.
  4. Clean hair dryer filter.
  5. Crafts. Use Q-tips to neatly apply paint and glue.
  6. Eye shadow. Use Q-tips instead of a brush to apply eye shadow. It’s more  hygienic because they’re disposable, and because you can use one for each color you’ll keep the colors from getting muddy.
  7. Perfume touch-up. Spray perfume on Q-tips and put into a zip top bag for fragrance touch-ups on the go.
  8. Aromatherapy on the go. Saturate tips with essential oils and store in a zip top bag.
  9. Thicken eye lashes. Use to apply powder to lashes before mascara to make lashes look thicker.
  10. Clean eye make-up mistakes. Remove small mistakes without ruining the whole look.
  11. Unstick a zipper. Dab in olive oil or conditioner and rub on a stuck zipper.
  12. Apply antibiotic ointment. More sanitary than using your fingers.
  13. Root touch-up. Dip in eye shadow and apply to roots between hair coloring.
  14. Lash glue. Use the tip of a Q-tip to neatly apply glue to fake lashes.
  15. Remove scuffs. Dip in nail polish remover to remove scuffs from patent leather shoes.
  16. Household cleaning. Q-tips are great for getting to hard-to-reach nooks and crannies in toys and kitchen gadgets.
  17. Remove eye puffiness. Wet Q-tips with water and put in a bag in the freezer. Roll them under eyes to reduce swelling and puffiness.

Mind-blowing, right? And this is just the beginning, I bet. Comment if you have other great ways to use Q-tips.

9 Super Time-Saving Hacks

We’re all about saving money; money is precious, after all, and there somehow never seems to be enough of it. You could say the same thing about time, couldn’t you? Somehow, time always gets away from me and I always wish I had more of it. So… how do you make that happen? You try these 9 super time-saving hacks, that’s how!

  1. Make your bed right away. Making my bed has actually always been one of the first things I do every morning because it make the bedroom looks neat and helps me feel like I’ve already done an important daily chore. But I recently discovered this video that shows how you can make your bed while you’re still in it! Watch it to learn how to be super-efficient with your time.
  2. Presort your laundry. Instead of one hamper for all the dirty laundry, which then has to be sorted before going into the washing machine, designate a separate mesh bag for whites, colors, and darks, and you’ll be all ready to go at laundry time, saving yourself some precious minutes.
  3. Be organized. Organization is the key to being most efficient. Regularly make to-do lists so that you can plan ahead. Prioritize and do the most important things first so that you get them out of the way. You’ll also be able to relax a bit if you know that the most important items on your list are done, so don’t allow yourself to stress if you don’t get to the things at the bottom.
  4. Consolidate errands. If you can, group errands together. If you need to do a few things in the same area, schedule those errands for roughly the same time to save on gas and travel time. If you can accomplish more than one thing in the same place, take advantage of that. There’s nothing like one-stop shopping!
  5. Pay your bills online. This is a widely available option and not having to write checks, stamp and address envelopes, and get them to the mailbox is a huge time saver.
  6. Don’t multi-task. Sounds strange, I know, when you’re trying to save time, but the truth is that trying to do too much at one time can often mess you up. You can be most efficient by letting your brain focus on one task, doing it right, and then moving on.
  7. Designate a spot for things you need. Like car keys, for example. You won’t waste time looking for things like that as you rush out of the house if there’s a designated space for them.
  8. Style your hair while you sleep. Here’s some multi-tasking that will save you some time in the morning. Shower at night and apply your usual products to wet hair. Then wrap your hair into a bun on top of your head and go to sleep! In morning, let it loose and finish it off with some styling products and you’re good to go!
  9. Make time for yourself. Set aside time to do something for you, like exercise, reading, or whatever you like to do for downtime. Schedule it as though it’s an appointment and make sure you keep it!

Remember that #9 is not indulgent and frivolous- it’s extremely important! Taking some time for yourself helps you recharge your batteries so that you can get through the rest of your busy day with more energy and a better mood. Follow the first eight tips and #9 will be a snap!

Save Money With Coupons

how to save money with coupons money saving tips myshopdiscounts

Extreme couponing is something between a sport and an obsession. I can’t see myself spending the time it must take to be a serious couponer, but I’m always looking for ways to save money and using coupons is a great way to do that. So let’s say this quest is about “saving money with coupons,” rather than “couponing,” which is a term that kind of scares me. Keep reading for tips to help you save money with coupons!

  • Know where to find coupons: You can find many coupons in local mailers, papers, store circulars, online coupon sites, and cashier printouts when you check out. Many couponers say that by using the coupons in the Sunday papers they make back the money they spend on their subscriptions. You can get exclusive coupons by liking a brand’s Facebook page, and by subscribing to emails from particular stores.
  • Be organized: Keep your coupons in a binder or box and organize them according to expiration date and category.
  • Keep track of expiration dates: Also pay attention to restrictions regarding details like quantity, package sizes, etc. Become familiar with store policies on coupons.
  • Learn coupon lingo: There are many couponing terms and acronyms that you should know. For example, “stacking” is when you can combine a store coupon with a manufacturer’s coupon, which will save even more money.
  • Know usual pricing: That way you’ll know if you’re really getting a good deal with the coupons.
  • Print online coupons as many times as you can: You can usually print the same coupon twice.
  • Combine coupons: This will get even greater savings.
  • Shop at multiple stores: You have to be willing to spend the extra time to go where the savings are. That’s an individual call only you can make.
  • Be flexible on brands: You might not always have a coupon for your favorite brand, so you’ll have to be okay with that.
  • Ask for rain checks: When an item is on sale, but the store has run out of that item, you can ask for a rain check. That will allow you to buy the item- when it’s been restocked- at the sale price even after the sale is over. Be sure to check the expiration date on your rain checks.
  • Wait for sales: Using a coupon for something that’s already on sale will score more savings.
  • Don’t buy what you don’t need: Having a coupon does not justify buying something you don’t want or need.
  • Watch the cashier: Keep an eye on the register when you check out; the cashier can miss something, especially if you have a lot of items and coupons.
  • Sign up for store loyalty programs: It’s usually free, and certain sales are only open to members of these programs.
  • Stock up: When you have coupons and can buy things you use regularly for a great price, buy as much as you can. If it’s a perishable item, see if you can store it in the freezer.
